Arsenal have Thomas Partey as a key signing this summer and they’re confident he’ll join, but only if they can find a way to afford it.

The Daily Mail claim Arsenal are confident Thomas Partey will sign from Atletico Madrid this summer. At the same time, they’re well aware of the huge losses they could make without supporters in the stands next season.

As a result, they’ll only be able to spend the money they make this summer. To bring in Partey, they’ll need to offload the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Alexandre Lacazette or Lucas Torreira.

The outlet claims Partey is keen to join Arteta at Arsenal, whilst the Gunners head coach considers him a ‘key arrival’. Head of international recruitment Francis Cagigao initially picked the midfielder out, before Edu and Arteta approved the pursuit.

Arsenal’s recent run of form helps matters, of course. Even if it’s too late to make the Champions League, Europa League qualification will still boost the club finances. Plus, it makes the club at least slightly more appealing to new signings.

The players listed above should hold some decent value, though. Guendouzi is young and talented, Lacazette is an established striker, Torreira another young midfielder with a lot of experience already.

Whether Atletico will accept one of the three in a swap deal or Arsenal move them on elsewhere, it doesn’t seem out of the question they’ll find a way to afford Partey.
