David Ornstein writes for The Athletic that Arsenal are putting the finishing touches on a new contract extension for Saka. The club will likely make an announcement this week after settling the teenager’s future.

After months of negotiations, they’re finally close to finalising a new long-term deal. At this stage, we don’t know exactly how long for, but you’d hope it’s four or five years long.

If the deal is to 2025 (fingers crossed), Saka would actually have the longest contract at the club. That would give the 18-year-old a lot of stability to develop and find his best role in the team.

In fairness, the recent contract uncertainty hasn’t affected him too negatively. Saka made it 11 assists for the season against Brighton recently and his influence was crucial to the winning goal against Sheffield United.

Just since football’s return, Saka has played on the right-wing, in a midfield three, out at left-midfield and on the left-wing. He’s showing a fantastic ability to adapt to whatever the team needs without dropping his level.

Making 37 senior appearances well before his 19th birthday, Saka is one Arsenal want to hang onto. We just need that official announcement now.
