Thomas Partey still has a clear wish to move to Arsenal this summer, despite reports that he’s in talks over a new Atletico deal.

TheAFCBell report that Thomas Partey has a ‘clear idea’ of where he wants to play next season, hoping to move to Arsenal. The Atletico midfielder reportedly made that clear to those close to him personally and at his current club.

Partey doesn’t know whether he’ll actually achieve this goal. It depends entirely on Arsenal’s ability to reach an agreement with Atletico, which is out of his control. But there’s no doubt over what he wants.

If Arsenal retain their interest in Partey, he won’t sign a new deal. He may even wait another year without an extension if necessary.

As long as the North London club are still in the picture, the 26-year-old won’t make it any more difficult for them by allowing Atletico to increase his release clause.

However, if the Gunners abandon their pursuit and Atletico make an acceptable offer, then he’ll consider an extension.

This report vaguely conflicts with the recent claim that Partey “hasn’t decided” if he’s staying or not. It seems he’s made up his mind to leave, it’s just up to Atletico and Arsenal as to whether he can do so.
