Olayinka came off the bench for Northampton Town on Monday, to help them secure an unprecedented win over Cheltenham Town to qualify for the play-off final.

The Arsenal loanee’s current club were 2-0 down after their home leg, a scoreline no club had ever come back from in the away game in League Two play-off history. However, they scored one early in each half, before bringing Olayinka on for the final 20 minutes.

Not long afterwards, Northampton took the lead, capitalising on a defensive error. Olayinka picked up a yellow for a tactical foul, and he made good use of his energy to force mistakes and run the clock down.

Cheltenham couldn’t find a way back into the game, meaning Northampton will face Exeter City at Wembley in the final next Monday.

There’s no telling whether Olayinka will start the match, but he’ll surely make the squad. Of the three games he was available for after joining on loan, he started two and came off the bench in the other.

It’s a great experience for the 19-year-old, albeit a rather bizarre play-off run without fans. A win next week would be a nice way to stop off a strange campaign.
