The Mirror report that Guendouzi is facing an FA charge and potential ban for his role in the post-match incident at Brighton on Saturday. The midfielder grabbed Neal Maupay by the throat briefly, but Martin Atkinson took no action.

If the incident is in Atkinson’s report and he says he decided not to take action, that will be the end of it. For whatever reason, the FA have a rule that stops them acting on incidents if the referee says they saw it.

If Atkinson doesn’t include the incident, however, the FA could step in and give Guendouzi a retrospective ban. With their new fast-track system, we’re likely to get the answer before the trip to Southampton on Thursday.

Personally, I think it’s pretty likely Guendouzi gets a ban. I’ve never seen the FA pass up an opportunity to hand a suspension down to an Arsenal player. Even though Atkinson was standing right next to the incident, I’m sure he’ll pretend he didn’t see it.

That would leave Arsenal without Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi going into the next match or so.
