Arsenal reportedly held initial exploratory talks with Nick Mavromaras, the agent of Jonathan David, ahead of a possible summer move.

Belgian outlet HLN report that Arsenal and Manchester United are both among the clubs to speak to the agent of Jonathan David to try and establish his availability this summer.

There are other clubs in the race too, including Ajax, Everton, Inter Milan and FC Porto. Gent don’t want to let the striker go, and they don’t have any formal offers to consider at this stage. But we already know the player himself is thinking about his future.

David is reportedly one of a few strikers on Arsenal’s shortlist of options to bring in if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaves this summer. The striker only has a year left on his current deal, so it’s definitely worth exploring alternatives in advance.

Realistically, I wouldn’t expect a firm decision on Aubameyang’s future until we know more about how Arsenal will finish the season. They could end up in the Champions League places and lifting the FA Cup, or trophyless in the bottom half.

Once the season is over and we get more clarity over Aubameyang’s intentions, I’d expect the replacement rumours to become more concrete too.
