Foster enjoyed an excellent season in the SPL while on loan with Celtic from Southampton but the player is expected to move on this summer, his performances doing his club a massive favour.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be on the hunt for a backup keeper and Forster seems to be one of the options on Mikel Arteta’s radar.

Celtic are also interested in signing him on a permanent basis but it looks likely that Southampton’s price tag will prove to be prohibitive.

Now 32, Forster has two years left on his contract at St Mary’s and it seems unlikely he would move to a club where he knows he’s going to be sitting on the bench for most of the season.

He finished with 17 cleansheets in 39 appearances for Celtic, conceding just 28 goals.

He has also played for Norwich, Stockport County, and Bristol Rovers while he was also on the books at Newcastle but never made a senior appearance for them.
