Willian will extend his contract on a short-term basis to see out the Premier League season with Chelsea, but he’s likely to move on to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur afterwards.

The Athletic report that Willian will see out the remainder of the season with Chelsea, even if (or when) it goes on past June 30th, when his current contract expires. He won’t sign another new deal after that, extension talks are completely off.

As a result, Willian is free to leave. He wants to stay in London and play at a high level, making Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur the leading options. On Arsenal’s end, agent Kia Joorabchian’s good relationship with Edu and David Luiz’s recent transfer work in their favour.

Willian is free to discuss a transfer abroad, given he is in the final six months of his deal, and he can also discuss a domestic transfer soon. For the time being, he isn’t doing so, as he wants to ‘keep Chelsea as his primary focus’.

It seems likely he’ll end up at Spurs or Arsenal afterwards, though. Spurs have the added draw of Jose Mourinho, someone Willian worked with previously. However, reports suggest the player is considering a three-year deal at Arsenal.

Willian scored seven goals and assisted six in 37 appearances this season before the league suspension.
