On Monday, Alexandre Lacazette and his representatives both posted on Twitter to hit back at a rumour suggesting he’s speaking to Atletico Madrid players over a summer transfer.

The rumour in question: “Alexandre Lacazette is said to have called Antoine Griezmann to request information on Atletico Madrid. Indeed, the Barcelona player remains close with the Atleti dressing room and is always in contract with close friend Koke.”

Score Agencies posted an emphatic response, writing: “Twitter is magic! It’s not nice to lie to the fans of Atleti.”

Alexandre Lacazette then added his endorsement to his agency’s response: “Not nice at all.”

This isn’t a total rebuttal of the Lacazette-to-Atletico rumours, just the reports of contact between the player and Griezmann. It’s not hard to see why Lacazette would speak out against that aspect of the reports either.

Speaking to players behind-the-scenes when you don’t have permission from your club comes dangerously close to tapping up. More than that, it’s just not going to make you very popular with fans if they think you’re eyeing up a move.

Lacazette and his agency evidently want to clarify that’s not what’s happening. If the striker is going to move on this summer, they’ll want it all above board.
