Alexandre Lacazette is in advanced negotiations with Atletico Madrid, speaking to Antoine Griezmann directly about the club, according to a report.

Journalist Jordan (@JordanM_Choco) of Paris United claims Lacazette is in advanced contact with Atletico Madrid. He reportedly contacted Antoine Griezmann for information on the club and could leave this summer.

However, the French journalist adds that Arsenal won’t let Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave in the same summer. It’s one or the other, with Aubameyang tentatively linked with the likes of Inter Milan.

Personally, I have my doubts about this story. There’s no denying Atletico’s interest in Lacazette in the past, but right now, it seems like a huge long-shot.

After all, we’re hearing from other sources that Atletico may have to make sales this summer just to stay afloat. With the current position outside the Champions League and stadium debts to pay off, they can hardly afford major transfer window investment.

If Arsenal are going to sell Lacazette, they’d need a pretty convincing offer. The Frenchman’s contract runs a year longer than Aubameyang’s, so if he leaves, the Gunners will lose both by 2021. They’d need to bring in enough money to sign a replacement.

Perhaps Atletico really are holding preliminary negotiations, just in case. If their season restarts and they make it back into the Champions League, they might have more money to spend. For now, I just can’t see any serious discussions taking place.
