FC Inter News report that Arsenal are looking for a new midfielder, and enquired with Inter over a transfer for Barella to fill the position. The Gunners had already previously made approaches for the player during his time with Cagliari.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Barella is happy and doing well with Inter. They consider him a key part of their current project, and wouldn’t even consider a negotiation over an exit.

In fact, Inter are already considering extending the midfielder’s contract. There’s no real rush, as he has a deal lasting until 2024 already. However, they want to add an extra year to 2025 after his strong start this season.

The 23-year-old is up to 29 appearances for the campaign, despite a knee injury keeping him out for most of the end of the year. When available, he almost always starts, and Inter are having a strong year with him in the team.

Barella also regularly appears for Italy, playing in seven of their last eight games. It’s fair to assume he’s happy where he is, whether or not this rumour was even genuine to begin with.
