Arsenal are reportedly chasing Brazilian goalkeeper Neto once again after he was reportedly told he was surplus to requirements at Barcelona.
This is far from the first time Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old, but, given the press report that we could be priced out of any transfer, it’s hard to understand why we’d want to move for him or believe there’s any truth to this rumour.
Bernd Leno was one of Arsenal’s players of the season until the league was brought to a premature halt. In fact, had it not been for the German, I dread to think where Arsenal would lie in the table at this point.
Neto is unlikely to want to move from one club to another just to sit on the bench, a spot Emi Martinez seems happy with. Besides, why leave the weather in Spain for that in London if you aren’t going to play?
He has made just four appearances this season whereas Martinez has 11 for Arsenal but, still, the move makes no sense for Arsenal if they are expected to pay a significant fee for the Barcelona man who still has another three years left on his current contract.
Arsenal were linked with him when he was at Valencia but he moved to Barcelona for £23.4m just last summer and there is no way Arsenal would be willing to pay out that sort of money for another keeper when cash is so short and squad needs are so great in other areas.
