Dayot Upamecano is almost certain to leave RB Leipzig this summer, with Arsenal just one of many clubs on his case, according to reports.

France Football write that Upamecano is ‘almost confirmed’ leaving RB Leipzig this summer. Though they admit Arsenal led the race for the player at one point, plenty of clubs are now in for him.

According to the report, the 21-year-old could move for €40m. Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur all join Arsenal in following him. The Premier League certainly looks like his most probable destination.

Spanish outlet Sport support this viewpoint. They write that despite links to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, Upamecano wants to play in the Premier League. He thinks he suits the English game and knows Leipzig will sell to avoid losing him for free.

The French u21 international only has a contract until 2021. He reportedly has a release clause of €60m, but the fact he only has one year left is reducing his value. Losing him on a free transfer in 2021 obviously isn’t good business for his current club.

You could easily see one of the above clubs paying €40-60m for a talented young defender in normal circumstances. It’s a different story this summer, though, given the financial mess many are in. Anything could happen in a couple of months.
