Real Madrid still see Luka Jovic as a work in progress, and they’re counting on him for the future, despite a poor first season so far.

Around the January transfer window, the media linked Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic with Arsenal. The rumours suggested the Spanish club could move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Jovic joining the Gunners as part of the deal.

Jovic is only up to two goals for his new club in 24 appearances so far this season. Nonetheless, AS report that Real are still counting on the player. The club believe he’s the “perfect age to grow as a football and as a person”, with a deal until 2025.

Real Madrid see him as one for the long-term, arguing that not everyone is the complete package at 22. They expect him to come good if they give him time. This seemingly rules out the option of the player moving to Arsenal this summer.

On the other hand, this might represent good news for Arsenal’s plans to keep Aubameyang around. The striker is unlikely to leave for Real Madrid if the La Liga club already have Karim Benzema, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz. So that’s a big positive.
