Speaking to Calciomercato.com, Fabrizio Romano answered a question from a user about whether Inter Milan hold an interest in Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

The Italian reporter responded that Inter are interested. However, he added the Aubameyang isn’t their first choice, nor a particularly hot name for them at the moment.

Recent reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via InterLive) suggested Inter might end their pursuit of Aubameyang completely. They apparently view him as too old, and they’d rather follow up a move for Timo Werner.

Regardless of which source you believe, it seems pretty clear an Aubameyang transfer to Inter is unlikely right now.

As we know, Aubameyang only has a contract with Arsenal until 2021. The Gunners will hope he’s planning to extend, given his 20 goals already this season. He’s also currently the primary club captain, following the Granit Xhaka situation.

Arsenal don’t seem to be making any progress on that front, though. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll sell – Aubameyang’s goals next season may be worth losing him for free. However, it does open the door for a big bid from a club like Real Madrid.
