Arsenal are looking to bring in two new defenders this summer, though it all depends on sales and the state of the market, according to David Ornstein.

Speaking at the AST Event on Wednesday, David Ornstein gave an overview of the Gunners’ current situation ahead of the transfer market. He expects Arsenal to look to bring in two defenders this summer, though whether that’s possible is another matter.

According to Ornstein, there’s a possibility for Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos to leave this summer, which would help fund possible deals. They’ll then aim to bring in at least one centre-back, ideally two.

All the same, we’re expecting a quieter transfer market than usual. Just as we covered yesterday, Ornstein repeated that Arsenal are mainly looking at loans and swaps. Presumably, that’s as well as free transfers.

This is all going to take a back seat until we have concrete plans for the rest of the season. As things stand, we don’t even know when the Premier League transfer window will open. It’s also very difficult to judge Arsenal’s finances until the season ends.
