Chronicle Live report that Arsenal are looking at Ispwich Town midfielder Flynn Downes ahead of the summer. Before the recent football shutdown, Ipswich had a £7m price tag on Downes, but that may drop as low as £3.5m in the current financial situation.

The Gunners face competition from Newcastle United, also interested in Downes. Newcastle may be looking to flex their new financial muscle if the sale of the club goes ahead.

Downes is a regular in the Ipswich Town senior side, playing 32 games this season. Despite his age, he even captained them on a couple of occasions. He’s up to 74 appearances for the team in total.

The 21-year-old is also in the England u20 side. He only turned 21 in January, so he was still eligible for the u20s when he made four appearances in October and November.

Emile Smith Rowe was also in the u20s in November. So it’s very possible Arsenal scouts spotted Downes whilst keeping an eye on their academy youngster.
