WhoScored posted their Premier League Team of 2020 so far on Wednesday, and Shkodran Mustafi was the sole Arsenal participant in the side.

With a 7.50 rating, Mustafi is actually the highest-rated defender in the team. The rating is based entirely on 2020 performances and only players with a minimum of five league appearances are eligible.

There’s no doubt Mustafi’s performances have improved significantly recently. After his mistake against Chelsea in January, he went on a run of good form.

For the remainder of that match at Stamford Bridge, he was one of the best players on the pitch. Arsenal managed to grind out a win with 10 men that day.

The centre-back was Man of the Match keeping a clean sheet against Burnley, then just as good the next match against Newcastle. He had a couple of shaky moments against Everton, but not enough to drag his average rating down.

Typically, for an Arsenal defender, his good form ended with an injury. He missed the first couple of games in March before the Premier League suspended fixtures. Now he needs to try and return in the same form he was in before.
