Arsenal academy centre-back Joseph Olowu is on loan with Cork City at the moment, and on an individual level, he’s playing well. He helped the team to their first clean sheet and first points of the season last weekend, with fans praising a ‘dominant’ performance.

Unfortunately, the team are struggling as a whole. So it proved again on Friday, as Olowu performed well but his side made it three games without a single away goal.

Olowu made a particularly important intervention to keep City’s own clean sheet intact late in the first half, cutting out a dangerous pass heading for the St. Patricks striker.

Early in the second period, Olowu had a bit of an injury scare, receiving treatment on the pitch. He managed to shake off the problem and finish the 90 minutes though. It was his fifth full match already, in just over three weeks since his debut.

Unfortunately, St. Pats took the lead early in the second half. There was nothing Olowu could do about the goal, with the City right-back at fault for allowing a runner in behind him.

The Arsenal man didn’t have much to do after that, but his team couldn’t find an equaliser. All the same, individually he’s making a promising start to life in senior football.
