Arsenal are still planning to pay matchday and non-matchday casual employees until the end of next month, at least, despite the football shutdown.

Players wait on the pitch while a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) review is conducted before awarding a goal to Arsenal during the English Premier League football match between Arsenal and West Ham at the Emirates Stadium in London on March 7, 2020.

Arsenal are committing to paying all employees, including their matchday and non-matchday casual workers, until April 30th. At that point, they’ll assess the situation again if football doesn’t return.

Obviously, this is the right thing to do. Premier League football clubs have plenty of money in their reserves, whilst your average part-time club shop worker probably doesn’t have quite as much. We all hope this will only represent a temporary measure anyway.

As long as all the other clubs follow suit, no one loses. The league all take the hit together, a hit they can all afford to take. Then there’s no fear of other clubs taking advantage to boost their own comparative finances.

Brighton are already on board, it’s surely just a matter of time until the rest join in.

Don’t be the club having to hire a load of new workers in a few months’ time because you refused to pay your current staff when you could afford to and they all (justifiably) quit. Do the right thing.
