Arsenal hold an interest in Chelsea’s Willian on a free transfer this summer, with the winger refusing to extend his contract, according to reports.

Alexis Bernard of Le10Sport claims Willian isn’t going to extend his deal with Chelsea, and Arsenal are one of the teams looking to take advantage.

The 31-year-old didn’t approve of Chelsea’s last contract offer, so he wants to leave. His contract expires in June, and a number of clubs are in for him on a free transfer. Paris Saint-Germain are one of them, along with Arsenal and Manchester United.

Willian did a good job of making these rumours more appealing to Arsenal fans on Sunday. He got a goal and an assist in the Chelsea demolition of Everton, creating a couple of big chances.

For the most part, the fans still need more convincing though. Willian has seven goals and six assists in 37 appearances this season. Not bad, but for a 31-year-old presumably on a big contract at Chelsea, it’s also not an obvious transfer.

Then there’s the matter of where he’d play. Willian is mostly playing on the right for Chelsea right now. Arsenal already have Nicolas Pepe to play there, so could Willian shift to the left instead?

He’s done it before, making eight appearances there this campaign. But he’d have to do so on a longer-term basis at Arsenal. Whether he’s willing to do that could influence his destination.
