The Daily Mail report that Arsenal have made initial contact over Feyenoord 19-year-old Orkun Kokcu. The player’s current club are keen to extend his contract, but they’re unsure if they’ll succeed, particularly if club’s with larger financial resources come in for him.

Arsenal are trying to take advantage of the uncertainty to push a move through early. A transfer would cost around £23m, according to the report. Technical director Edu is prioritising the teenager as a ‘priority signing’.

Kokcu is up to 33 appearances for the season, scoring three goals and assisting six so far. That includes three goal contributions in his nine European fixtures this season from midfield.

In fact, the player is in particularly good form right now, scoring or assisting in five of Feyenoord’s last six league games. Perhaps that’s what’s driving the current buzz around Arsenal interest.

Arsenal have been keeping an eye on Kokcu for quite a while now. Club scouts reportedly first watched him on his debut, back in 2018. The player has a strong long shot and takes good set-pieces, though his defensive contribution is a bit weaker.
