Sevilla could consider rehiring Unai Emery as their head coach if results under Julen Lopetegui don’t improve, according to reports in Spain.

OkDiario report that Sevilla – the club Emery already spent three years with – are desperate to qualify for the Champions League to fund their recent heavy spending. As things stand, their top-four run is going very poorly, with just one win in five games.

As a result, they’re starting to consider alternatives. If their run of form continues, a change of head coach is on the table, with Emery the favourite. To place a bet on the weekend matches, get a welcome 888sport bonus by following the link.

However, current boss Julen Lopetegui is confident he can turn things around. He believes he can do enough to keep his job until at least the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid is reportedly another potential destination for Emery. Diego Simeone is struggling with the club this season, only scraping into the top four currently. Ironically, they’re back in fourth right now as a result of Sevilla’s troubles.

As an Arsenal fan, I’m not quite sure I understand why Emery is the key target for clubs trying to qualify for the Champions League. That’s not our problem anymore though.
