As we covered last week, Arsenal youngsters Omari Hutchinson and James Sweet were with the England u17s for a few friendlies in Marbella. The team are preparing for their UEFA u17 Euro elite round qualifiers next month.

In that first game, Hutchinson featured for 72 minutes in a 0-0 draw. It was his international debut, a moment he describes as a ‘proud’ one. Sweet didn’t make it off the bench.

Things improved for both players in the second match. Sweet made the starting lineup against Russia, playing the first 73 minutes. Hutchinson came on for the final 15, and he provided an assist as England came from 2-1 down to win 4-2.

Hutchinson came alive in the third fixture against Ukraine. The Arsenal u16 midfielder provided assists for three of the four goals, as England won 4-0. Sweet came on for the final 19 minutes.

It’s encouraging for England that their results improved with each game, and for Hutchinson that he could have such an impact creatively. The 16-year-old is having a great season with Arsenal, regularly providing goals and assists to the team.

Sweet will also be happy to get off the mark with his country at u17 level. Hopefully, both players will get call-backs for the Euro qualifiers in March.
