Back in the summer, Swindon Town signed Daniel Ballard on loan from Arsenal, but his spell didn’t last long – thanks to injury.

Just three games into his season, Ballard picked up a knee injury. He needed surgery on the problem, and at that stage in August, the recovery schedule was five months. Here we are six months later, and Ballard is back in full training with Arsenal.

Due to the injury, Ballard’s season-long loan ended early. He’ll likely return to action with the u23s from now until the end of the campaign. Another loan next season is very possible, especially given the number of defenders at Arsenal.

Prior to the injury, Ballard was one of Arsenal’s best young defensive talents. He finished last season strongly, helping the u23s keep five clean sheets in eight games and only concede four goals.

The Northern Ireland senior side took notice of his progress, calling him up to their squad. In fact, he was due to join the team again in September before his setback.

For now, it’s just good to see him back out on the pitches again. There’s certainly no need to rush him into match action.
