Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Zach Awe both started for the England u16s against Denmark this week. Norton-Cuffy is a right-back, whilst Awe can play central defence or defensive midfield, so it was good for both of them to keep a clean sheet in a 4-0 win.

Norton-Cuffy often plays a more advanced role on the right-hand side, and he actually scored a couple of international goals recently.

The Arsenal teenager made his England debut for the u16s against Scotland in October, scoring the winner that day. He also scored against Japan in December in a 5-0 victory.

He didn’t get a goal this time around though. Jude Soonsup-Bell (Chelsea) scored twice, whilst Divin Mubama (West Ham) and Kian Pennant (Leicester) got one each.

Awe made his debut for the Arsenal u18s this season, coming off the bench in August, before making his first start earlier this month. Both players turned 16 in January, so you’d expect more chances in the u18s as the year goes on.

The England u16s play the USA (February 21st) and Spain (February 24th) next.
