Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang responded to a report about his contract extension negotiations on Twitter, suggesting it’s all nonsense.

This week, John Cross of the Mirror reported that Arsenal are ready to relaunch contract negotiations with Aubameyang. He wrote that an extension would likely depend on whether the team qualify for the Champions League ahead of next season.

AFTV summed up the rumours in a tweet on Wednesday, as you can see below:

Aubameyang himself clearly didn’t like the report though, responding to it on Twitter:

It’s not exactly clear which part of the initial tweet he’s rubbishing. It could be the part saying they’ve held talks, it could be that the talks went well, it could be that he wants to see if the club will play Champions League football before signing. Maybe it’s all of it.

Unfortunately, whenever one of these contract sagas comes around, it dominates the headlines throughout the season.

It doesn’t matter if Aubameyang provides 20 goal contributions before the end of February. In fact, that just makes people ask the question more.

That’s why I’m writing about it right now, because I know people are sitting on their PCs or phones searching for any update they can find. You have to hope the people putting out ‘exclusives’ are actually sourcing their stories properly. Apparently, in this case, they weren’t.
