Le10Sport claim the Arsenal board have made ‘good contact’ with Aubameyang over a contract extension. The player’s current deal runs out in 2021, and it’s no surprise the club want to renew given the striker’s performances since joining.

The club held initial discussions with Aubameyang, but the player put them on stand-by because he wants to know more about the situation before making a decision. The 30-year-old wants to play Champions League football and see ambitious recruitment.

An extension is very much on the table as a result, but it requires a positive end to the season on the pitch.

Mikel Arteta is hopeful Arsenal can convince the player to stay. The head coach is counting on the recent upturn in form to help with that. Arteta also talked about Aubameyang enjoying his football and being part of the club’s vision for the future.

If he feels at home, important and part of a team with a future, that will all help. The chance to play in the Champions League again is undoubtedly going to sway the decision too.
