The Training Ground Guru report that Wolves Senior Academy Scout Phil Antwi is joining the Arsenal scouting department as their lead scout for the u12s to u14s. Antwi worked with Lee Herron at Reading, the current Talent ID head at Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Conan Watson is joining from his job as part of the Player Insights team at the FA, to be lead scout for the u15s to u16s. Ayo Durojaiye will become the new lead scout for u9s to u11s, receiving a promotion from his job as youth Academy scout.

This is all part of the youth scouting department restructure job in the last few months. As reported previously, Steve Brown (Head of Coaching at MK Dons) and Yousuf Sajjad (previously of Chelsea) are also part of the new Talent ID team.

It’s certainly interesting to see quite such widespread changes in youth scouting. Arsenal probably did need an overhaul, as all departments do after a while, but you never know which way things will go when you make so many changes at once.

If they’ve made the right appointments, we could see some major progress with the academy. That would be excellent for the club, as they already pride themselves on talent coming through. It’s a gamble though, so we’ll see what happens.
