Cazorla is only coming off the bench for Villarreal at the moment, since his sprained ankle in late November. That hasn’t stopped him scoring though, with two goals from open play in his last three substitute appearances.

Against Comillas CF in the Copa del Rey, he scored a curling effort from outside the box. It wasn’t the most important goal, putting Villarreal 4-0 up in the 76th minute, but it was a nice finish. Watch it below from 3:34:

That goal was just before the winter break, but Cazorla kept his scoring run going with another goal in his first game after the holidays.

This one was much more important. Villarreal were level at 1-1 with fifth-place side Real Sociedad, with less than 20 minutes to go. Cazorla received a cross on the left-hand side and fired in with his left foot.

The assistant referee initially ruled it out for offside, but VAR confirmed the midfielder was easily on. Watch the goal below from 1:08:

In total, that makes seven goals and four assists in 17 appearances for Cazorla this season. At 35, that’s an incredible record for a midfielder.

It’s no wonder the former Gunner is back in contention for the Spain squad. He featured in three of their last four games, providing a goal and an assist for his national team in convincing wins. Euro 2020 participation is very much on the cards.
