Di Marzio write that Atletico Madrid will have to sell in order to fund a move for Edinson Cavani, who they’re planning to bring in this month. La Liga has a salary cap, and Atletico won’t be able to comply with it without selling.

Thomas Lemar is the player they’re willing to let go, and the winger has offers from Premier League clubs.

Marca reported a similar story this week. They added that Lemar’s agent Jorge Mendes has already spoken with Atletico’s CEO about a move. He plans to try and complete a deal with a Premier League club.

Given Lemar’s agent is trying to sell, it’s not a surprise to hear rumours of offers. Obviously, he’s going to want his client to seem as popular as possible to generate interest.

If it is true though, you’d imagine the offers must be from some top Premier League clubs. Lemar joined Atletico for €60m, so they’re not going to let him go cheaply.

However, Lemar is struggling with his new team, failing to contribute to a goal in 21 appearances this season.

There are still the underlying signs of a good player there. WhoScored list his strengths as passing (very strong), dribbling, crossing, holding on to the ball and taking set-pieces, with only finishing as a weakness.

Whether it’s enough to convince Arsenal to splash the kind of cash Atletico want is another matter.
