Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton are all said to be trying to sign Emmanuel Adebayor who is currently a free agent.

Now 35, Emmanuel Adebayor has been without a club since the start of December when he left Kayserispor after just six months.

With 97 goals in the Premier League, the Daily Mail report that he is desperate to hit 100 and is looking for a return to England to try and achieve that goal.

Villa and Brighton are said to be ready to offer him a short-term deal (he turns 36 next month), but the Mail don’t mention what Newcastle are putting on the table.

It’s not the first time Adebayor has found himself without a club. Or even the second.

It happened when he was released by Spurs in 2015 and then again when Palace let him leave six months after signing him at the start of 2016.

Adebayor has played against Arsenal nine times, scoring three and assisting three. He has scored more goals against Tottenham (10) than any other side (Newcastle next with eight).

Against Villa, he has scored seven goals in 11 games but, as far as I can see, has never played against Brighton.

For Arsenal, Adebayor scored 62 goals, with 22 assists, in 142 appearances before leaving in 2009 for Manchester City.

Adebayor changed mind about City, Wenger threatened him with reserves and sold him anyway
