Manchester City will reportedly resist any attempt from Arsenal to sign John Stones in this window.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for John Stones in the January window with some parts of the media even reporting that they could try to land him on loan.

That won’t be happening.

City have no plans to sell any players in this window and they will certainly not be letting centrebacks go, even on loan.

Aymeric Laporte has finally returned to training after a knee injury but Pep Guardiola still wants to keep Stones at the club. As we’ve seen with Hector Bellerin and others, knee injuries take time to recover from properly.

The S*n claimed that Arsenal have made John Stones their ‘top transfer target’ under Mikel Arteta. The defender wants regular first-team football between now and the end of the season, to boost his chances of featuring at Euro 2020, which is understandable.

Stones and Arteta use the same agency, and the City man would reportedly be keen to discuss a move. For Arsenal, a loan is a possibility, given their restricted January budget and Stones’ immediate desire for games.

The 25-year-old reportedly travelled to London to see his agent last week, and is due back again this week. According to Daniel Cutts, a move to Arsenal was part of their discussion. Then again, even as editor of The S*n’s sports news, he doesn’t really seem to know what’s going on.

However, the Manchester Evening News claimed City didn’t want to move him on in the current window and this has now been backed up in the Daily Mail with the summer more likely to bring a move.

Stones has made just 14 appearances this season, although injury has played its part in that. He played his first Premier League game in over a month against Aston Villa on Sunday.
