Olympique Lyonnais made a €22m offer for Arsenal-linked midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this week, according to reports in France.

Le10Sport report Lyon are joining Arsenal in the race for Guimaraes with a first offer of €22m. That’s not necessarily going to be enough, as Athletico Paranaense reportedly want €25m or more to sell.

The reason Lyon are so keen is that their current midfielder Lucas Tousart might leave this month. Hertha Berlin are offering €25m, after Lyon rejected their first bid of €20m. If the Ligue 1 side do decide to sell, they want a replacement ready to come in.

For those who like this sort of thing, Guimaraes’ agent also followed Lyon on Instagram. Of course, any good agent will play up reports of interest in their client, whether they’re true or not.

Athletico-PR’s club president previously claimed Arsenal and Benfica both held an interest in Guimaraes. The former made an official offer, whereas Arsenal were apparently waiting for the summer.

Then, one report from Goal in Brazil suggested Arsenal were actually planning to bring the move forward to January. David Ornstein later claimed sources told him the rumour was just ‘media speculation’.

Goal claim Guimaraes has a Spanish passport. Assuming that’s true, he won’t have any trouble joining a European team this window.
