Le10Sport report that after the injury to Luis Suarez, Barcelona are accelerating their search for a new centre-forward.

According to the French outlet’s information, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is their top target. Suarez will miss around four months after his operation, so they need someone in quickly.

The hierarchy at Barcelona have decided on Aubameyang, and plan to open concrete negotiations with Arsenal in the coming days. They want to complete a deal before the end of the January transfer window.

Le10Sport don’t claim to know how Arsenal would respond to an offer. They just add that the ball will be in the Gunners’ court.

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s club captain, and their top scorer this season by a distance. Though he’s currently out with a suspension, he has 17 goal contributions in 26 games in 2019/20.

Gabriel Martinelli is the next closest with 12, though most of them came in the League Cup and the Europa League.

It would be a big loss if Aubameyang left midway through the season. Arsenal have other options, from Alexandre Lacazette to Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah, but none on the same level of goalscoring consistency.

It seems unlikely Arsenal would sell now. Unless Barcelona offer huge money and the club have a specific target to spend it on, it’s just too disruptive.
