Edu and Mikel Arteta were spotted deep in conversation with Steve Round at Goodison Park and it is rumoured he will become Arteta’s assistant manager, so who is he?
Steve Round has worked previously as a technical coach at Derby, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, and with England under Steve McLaren.
He has also served as assistant manager at Everton and Manchester United with David Moyes, and Derby. His last job was as Technical Director at Aston Villa, a post he left last summer.
With regards to his Villa job, he was apparently determined to drive through a project that would establish a style of play and sense of pride at the club but was, ultimately, seen to have spent the club’s money unwisely.
Speaking about Round when he was spotted at Goodison on Saturday, Sam Allardyce who worked with the coach while at Newcastle, said the 49-year-old, “Likes to link in a lot with the analysts and the sports scientists and the nutritionists. So he can bring a lot to the table, take a lot of the pressure off Mikel Arteta.
“And obviously Mikel worked with him and must have been impressed with him in his coaching days Steve here with David Moyes at Everton.”
According to David Ornstein, Round will be one of six staff to work along with Arteta.
