Eddie Nketiah is just back from injury with Leeds, making three substitute appearances since his comeback on November 30th. Saturday’s match against Cardiff was certainly the most eventful, but not for the right reasons.

Nketiah came on with 13 minutes to go and Leeds 3-1 up. There wasn’t much he could do from his position up front to stop Cardiff quickly pulling a goal back though, as Sean Morrison made it 3-2 a few minutes later.

Morrison and Nketiah then got involved in the game’s biggest flashpoint. Nketiah chased a pass down the left-hand side and got there ahead of the defender, pushing the ball towards the penalty area. Morrison arrived late and took the Arsenal loanee out.

It was an unnecessarily heavy challenge, and the referee pulled out his red card. Rather than Leeds pushing on against 10 men, they tried to defend their lead and ended up losing it to an 88th-minute equaliser.

Nketiah had a very late chance to score a winner, rising highest to a cross and heading on target. The goalkeeper made a good save and the rebound from Ben White deflected agonisingly wide. It just wasn’t their day.

You can watch the red card challenge and Nketiah’s late chance in the video from Leeds’ YouTube channel below. The challenge is at 2:07 and the header is at 2:39.
