Arsenal v Chelsea used to be a clash of the heavyweights but as we head into this banter-weight special, Mikel Arteta explains what he thinks Arsenal need to win the game.

Arsenal need to beat Chelsea.

A week or two ago you wouldn’t find many Arsenal fans giving themselves a chance against Chelsea but with Frank Lampard’s side growing ever more unpredictable, Arsenal have an opportunity to close the gap from eight points to five instead of allowing it to grow to 11.

While we’ve conceded 28 goals already in the league this season, they’ve shipped 27. They just happen to have scored eight more which isn’t really fair when you consider Unai Emery wouldn’t let us even try to attack for most of the year.

“I think energy is everything, in life in football and in sports,” Arteta said before the match, clearly aware how much of that Emery sucked out of us. “If we are able to generate this, it will give us a lift.

“What I want now is to review the game, go through the individual and collective issues that we had, the positives and negatives, to try to convince them that if they do more of this then they will be more comfortable in the game.

“Then we’ll be closer to winning football games.

“I know Chelsea lost at home against Southampton but they are a terrific team, so it will be a really good test for us.”

This will be the 27th time the Arsenal and Chelsea have played each other this decade.

Arsenal have lost 12, drawn six and won eight. With two wins each from their last four meetings, who the hell knows how Sunday will go?
