Arsenal are interested in 17-year-old right-back Yan Couto, who impressed at the recent u17 World Cup with Brazil, according to reports.

Couto seemingly caught the eye at Arsenal featuring in five of Brazil’s seven games at the u17 tournament.

That includes playing 263 out of 270 minutes in the quarter-final, semi-final and final – providing two assists. His country ended up winning the tournament.

The only blot on Couto’s copybook at the event was a red card in the group stage, which is why he missed two matches. Other than that, it was an impressive tournament that drew interest from Europe.

Globo Esporte report that Bayer Leverkusen have already made enquiries over a €5m deal, and Arsenal are also in for him.

Couto’s agent, Marcelo Robalinho, is currently negotiating a contract extension for him. The player has a deal until 2020, but Coritiba want to extend that to five years. Whether he signs or not, Couto can’t leave for Europe until he turns 18 in June.

With the success of Gabriel Martinelli and the part new technical director Edu reportedly played in it, I doubt many Arsenal fans would complain about the former Gunner sealing the signing of another Brazilian talent for us.
