A few weeks back on the Daily Cannon weekly podcast that followed the shambles in Sheffield, host Matthew Wade tried to work out just what position Dani Ceballos, who had only played 90 minutes for Arsenal once by that point, plays…

Currently out injured, Dani Ceballos has missed the last two Premier League games after finally getting back-to-back 90 minutes against Palace and Wolves.

Here’s what Matthew had to say when he was discussing just what is Dani Ceballos?

“I find Ceballos such an interesting player because people can’t work is he a 6? Is he a 10? Is he an 8? Is he a 7.5?

“He seems to like playing as a very, very deep inside left. But also the way he manages to run with the ball, like he never has control of it but tends to keep control of it somehow, and then plays passes where he looks like he’s falling over but somehow manages to play a great ball.

“Ceballos looks like he’s totally uncoordinated, but he seems to have control a lot of the time. But we don’t really know what he is as a footballer.

“He is basically a midfielder with some attacking and passing ability, but we haven’t quite worked out the best way to utilise him yet.

“I’d say he certainly increases our controlled possession but decreases our penetration, which is exactly what you’d expect from a player in his position, coming on or off for someone who has a less controlled, more penetrative game.
