Nigeria u23s are currently playing the group stage of the event, which doubles as a qualifier for the Olympics next summer. They didn’t get off to the best start though, losing 1-0 to Ivory Coast after conceding a penalty and being reduced to 10 men.

They needed a win against Zambia, and former Gunner Nwakali gave them the lead with a well-placed free-kick for 2-1. They doubled their advantage in injury time to secure the result and move up into second in the group behind South Africa, who they face next.

Nwakali left Arsenal this summer, but he’s yet to play a club game for SD Huesca since leaving.

Having spoken with sources close to the player, we’ve confirmed that he’s planning to join up with his new teammates in Spain to officially complete his move after the u23 AFCON tournament.

SD Huesca, Arsenal and Nwakali’s representatives have agreed all terms for the player’s transfer and they’re in the process of completing his work permit applications. Once that’s done, the midfielder will be free to start playing for his new club.
