Mikel Arteta is a ‘top contender’ to take over as Everton manager, with Marco Silva badly out of favour at the club, according to reports.

Everton lost 2-0 to Norwich City over the weekend, a shocking result considering the Toffees were at home playing the bottom team in the league. It only increased the pressure on Marco Silva, whose team sit in 15th place despite heavy summer investment.

If this all sounds familiar that’s unsurprising, given Arsenal are essentially in the same position, just slightly further up the table. Funnily enough, Everton are even being linked with the same candidate to replace their struggling manager.

Mikel Arteta has been tipped for the Arsenal job plenty of times in the last couple of years, and the rumours are perhaps at their strongest right now given Unai Emery’s problems. However, Football Insider report that he’s now a ‘top contender’ to replace Silva at Everton.

Arteta is expected to be sounded out by third parties about his interest in the coming days, though David Moyes is also in the frame for the Everton job (thankfully not the Arsenal one yet).

If Arsenal really are interested in hiring Arteta, which it’s difficult to say for sure right now, they’re going to have to make sure they don’t stall until it’s too late.
