Eddie Nketiah missed out on Leeds United’s victory over QPR on Saturday, after picking up an abdominal injury the previous day.

Nketiah has been in good recent form, and he was starting to make a strong case for his inclusion over Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice striker Patrick Bamford at Leeds.

The young Arsenal loanee scored a late equaliser against Preston North End a couple of games ago, then had a positive second-half cameo against Sheffield Wednesday a few days later.

Any hopes of Nketiah making the starting lineup to face QPR the following weekend were quickly dashed though. Leeds announced the striker was ‘ruled out’ of the match after he ‘picked up an abdominal injury in training on Friday’.

The good news is that they’ve only ruled him out of that one game at this stage. Bielsa admitted he doesn’t know how long the problem will keep Nketiah out, so we’ll have to wait for an update next week.

In the 20-year-old’s absence, Leeds won 2-0, with Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison getting on the scoresheet. Bamford’s run of Championship starts without a goal or assist extended to 10, but nobody will be too worried about that on this occasion.

Nketiah has five goals in 430 minutes for Leeds this season, making him their top scorer in all competitions.
