Robin van Persie and Kieran Tierney both sung Gabriel Martinelli’s praises after the youngster scored his fifth Arsenal goal on Thursday night.

Tierney got his second assist for Arsenal against Vitoria, in a very similar fashion to the first. The left-back put a cross in from the left with Martinelli rising to head an accurate finish into the net, just as he did against Standard Liege.

After the game, Tierney spoke to Arsenal about his new teammate.

“I love playing with Gabi, even in training as well, and I hate playing against him,” Tierney said. “He’s a great player and it’s a pleasure to play alongside him. You can see how clinical he is in front of goal.

“He’s good at everything. There’s not a negative I can say about Gabi. He’s got the lot.”

It’s not just those inside the club who have taken notice of Martinelli’s impressive performances though. Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie told BT Sport that the teenager is a joy to watch.

“Me too [I’m excited about Martinelli],” van Persie said. “He knows where the danger is, where the space is. He scored a great goal.

“What I like about him is his link-up play, he looks lively, he looks technical, he looks very good to me, it’s a joy watching him. Five in five is a great start.”

The Brazilian youngster does seem to have a bit of a killer instinct in the penalty area. Despite one miss towards the end of the Vitoria game, Martinelli still has five goals and an assist in just three starts so far.

He’s yet to get involved in the goals in 45 minutes’ worth of Premier League substitute appearances so far, but you’d have to imagine they’ll come soon enough if he keeps this form up. Arsenal have a real talent on their hands.
