Mesut Özil is coming to the realisation that his time with Arsenal is coming to an end, according to reports in the English media.

The Mirror claim Özil is worried he may have already played his last game for Arsenal, with the realisation that he doesn’t fit into Unai Emery’s plans or philosophy. The report adds that the head coach hasn’t been impressed with the German’s attitude in training.

Arsenal now apparently want to move the playmaker on, and they’re looking at ways to offload him in January, even if it means subsidising his wages. Özil believes there is now no way back despite enjoying living in London.

Take all of this with a pinch of salt, given the source, but it’s not as though this would be completely out of the blue. Özil has only made four of Arsenal’s 11 squads this season, and he’s only played in two of those four matches.

The 30-year-old performed well in both of his appearances, playing the pass of the match against Watford in the build-up to the second goal and creating six chances against Nottingham Forest, but it didn’t seem to earn him any favour with Emery.

There’s still time for things to change before January, but right now it doesn’t look like they’re going to.
