Arsenal face Liverpool in the League Cup later today, but we already have quite a lot of early team news from various sources.

With Liverpool strong favourites for this game, you can get really great odds of 47/20 of Arsenal producing a shock on Wednesday night.

For a start, on the injury front, there’s nothing new to report. Reiss Nelson is still out, but there were no injuries sustained against Crystal Palace, so the rest of the squad remain available for selection.

That includes Mesut Özil, who Unai Emery confirms will travel with the group to Liverpool. Whether he’ll play is another matter, but he reportedly had a ‘very good conversation’ with the Arsenal head coach on Tuesday, and he’s now back in contention.

Granit Xhaka will not travel, though Emery insists this was already the plan even before his falling out with the supporters. Calum Chambers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Luiz are also confirmed absentees from the travelling party.

Additionally, there were no u23s in first-team training on Tuesday, unless you count Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has started the last five games for the u23 side but is technically a first-team player.

That means Tyreece John-Jules and Folarin Balogun won’t see their positive seasons with the youth teams rewarded on this occasion.

John-Jules has only just returned from a hamstring injury, so that’s certainly played a part in his absence, whilst Balogun is yet to play a minute for Arsenal, even in a friendly. Liverpool away was probably deemed too difficult a venue for his debut.

That’s all we’ve got so far, but if you want to have a look at our predicted team from those available, you can do so here.
