Fenerbahce Director of Football Damien Comolli has been in contact with Arsenal over the loan signing of Mesut Özil, according to reports in Turkey.
Turkish outlet Takvim report that Fenerbahce President Ali Koc and Director Damien Comolli are working on the potential loan signing of Mesut Özil. Comolli has reportedly been in contact with Arsenal and started to discuss conditions.
Takvim claim Özil now wants to leave Arsenal, and the Gunners are looking to bring in a replacement in January. As a result, they’re willing to let the German leave, even possibly paying part of his wages to do so. Özil’s contract in North London expires in 2021.
Over the summer, Comolli publicly stated that he wouldn’t waste any time talking about the potential signing of Özil because it was ‘beyond imagination’.
At the time, it seemed as though he was referring to a permanent transfer, so perhaps a loan with Arsenal paying part of the wages could be more reasonable.
It still seems like a bit of a long shot though, and the Turkish media are hit and miss at best when it comes to Arsenal stories. Mohamed Elneny’s loan is the only one they’ve called correctly for a while. You never know though.
