Bacary Sagna has been named Montreal Impact’s Defensive Player of the Year following his second season with the club.

Bacary Sagna was named the fourth-most important player in the team for the year just finished but the highest-rated defender playing a total of 2,630 minutes in all competitions as they won the Canadian Championship.

Now 36, Sagna joined Montreal in the summer of 2018, moving from Benevento on a free transfer.

He was an £8.1m signing for Arsenal in 2007, arriving from Auxerre to establish himself as the team’s first-choice left back. In total, Sagna made 285 appearances for Arsenal, more than he made for all his other clubs combined.

After leaving Arsenal on a free transfer for Manchester City in 2014, Sagna won just one League Cup with the Citizens.

With Arsenal, he won the FA Cup just before he left.
