Mohamed Elneny received a red card on his debut for Besiktas, in a fiery match that saw three players sent off.

Things started to take a turn for the worse just six minutes into Elneny’s debut for Besiktas, as Domagoj Vida was sent off for a professional foul and Gazisehir FK forward Patrick Twumasi converted the resulting penalty for 1-0.

The home side made it 2-0 in the second half, before Elneny became involved in an incident that saw another two players sent off. The Arsenal loanee received an elbow to the face from Olarenwaju Kayode and responded with a kick to the knee.

Both players were quickly dismissed, and there were three more goals in the final 15 minutes to make the full-time score 3-2 to Gazisehir. Not the start Elneny would have hoped for.

The worst part is that the Egyptian international had actually been playing well up until that point. He’d hardly misplaced a single pass – with 98% pass accuracy, he’d won both of his ground duels, made four clearances and won possession four times.

It’s a shame all of that will now be forgotten and he’ll have to rebuild the confidence of his coaches and supporters after just one match.
