Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested it’s unlikely Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones or Anthony Martial will feature against Arsenal, and Paul Pogba is also a doubt.

Manchester United already had a few players set to be absent from their clash with Arsenal due to injury, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly, Tim Fosu-Mensah and Angel Gomes all out.

Phil Jones joined them after being withdrawn at half-time against Rochdale, and Solskjaer says Pogba is also a doubt after that match.

“There might be one or two who have not really come back,” the Manchester United boss admitted. “Paul was really struggling with his ankle as it was really swollen, so let’s see how that repairs. He got 90 minutes but was sore towards the end again.”

In addition, Solskjaer implied both Martial and Rashford would miss out on the visit from Arsenal.

“I don’t think we’ll see Anthony before the international break. No, I don’t think so. I wouldn’t put my life on it (Rashford and Martial both missing the match), no, but that’s part of this game. You work with what you have and we’re looking forward to this game.”

Most likely, young Mason Greenwood will start at centre-forward against Arsenal on Monday, after two goals in his last two games against FC Astana and Rochdale. Knowing the history of teenage strikers looking for their first league goal and Arsenal Football Club, that’s not necessarily a good omen.

United have had a much more difficult time replacing Pogba recently, so it would be a bit of a boost to see him miss out. Then again, they didn’t look significantly more impressive with him in the team against Rochdale.

It’s worth keeping in mind this is Manchester United we’re talking about. Shaw, Martial and Pogba will probably magically reappear in the starting lineup on Monday night.
